Kelly Smith set up shop to sell her paintings at the end of her driveway when she was 7 years old—an effort that was quickly scuttled by her mother. She received a bachelor’s degree in biological anthropology from Harvard College and a master’s degree in biology from Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Science. Kelly went to business school but dropped out after the first year to become a full-time artist. She had her first solo show (under the pseudonym Ana Kelly) in 2003. Her short film, “dotted lines,” was selected for the inaugural juried Three Rivers Film Festival in Pittsburgh, PA. Her experimental film work was highlighted in a live performance (“31st chair”) with the Attack Theatre dance company and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Kelly is the author of the award-winning What’s Your Spirit Animal? and currently lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA.
